Mission Statement
The Rockwall ISD Department of Curriculum and Instruction is committed to fostering excellence in all areas and focusing on academic success by providing services and instructional support to students and teachers.
Elementary School Program
Language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, health, art, music, and computer literacy are the content offerings for grades pre-Kindergarten through sixth. Instructional technology is designed to prepare students for the challenges of a technological world. An integrated curriculum approach incorporates technology as a natural part of the educational process.
Middle School Program
Seventh and eighth graders take required courses in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Elective courses are offered in theatre, art, choir, speech, technology, business, physical education, and foreign languages. Students may earn high school credit by taking Algebra I and Spanish I in middle school.
High School Program
Course offerings at the high school level include a wide range of options in both the core content areas and the elective areas. An increased number of Advanced Placement courses is offered in a variety of disciplines. Elective areas include, but are not limited to, fine arts (band, art, theater), language arts (journalism, speech), foreign languages, (French, Spanish, German, American Sign Language), mathematics (calculus, computer mathematics), and social studies (sociology, psychology).
Career and Technical Education
Courses are available to prepare high school students for employment. RISD articulates with Eastfield and Collin County Community Colleges to provide additional opportunities for tech prep programs. Students may choose among agriculture, trade and industrial education, office education, drafting, family and consumer science, and marketing education.
RISD offers an abundance of opportunities for students in grades 7-12 to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Many students take advantage of the multiple opportunities afforded them.
