History

  • Herman E. Utley Middle School opened in the fall of 1995 and subsequently served as a freshman center and is now once again a middle school.

    Herman Utley graduated from Princeton High School and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from East Texas State University. He served as an aerial gunnery instructor in the U.S. Air Force. After serving his country, he returned to his hometown of Princeton in 1946 and began his teaching career.

    Mr. Utley came to Rockwall in 1958 and served as the Junior High School principal from 1958-1963. He then served 9 years as principal of Rockwall High School and ten years as principal of Howard Dobbs Elementary. He retired in 1982, and served as a substitute teacher after his retirement.
