Counselor

  • The Rockwall ISD counseling program is based on the developmental needs of all students.  My priority is to help develop a comprehensive guidance program that will meet the academic, personal, and social needs of all of our students.

My name is Kelly Emmerson and I am the counselor at Reinhardt Elementary.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Master’s of Counseling degree from Texas A & M University at Commerce.  Feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance at 972-771-5247 or by email at kelly.emmerson@rockwallisd.org.

As the counselor at Reinhardt Elementary, I have many different responsibilities. Some of them include:

Classroom Guidance:  Our guidance program includes activities for all students.  I teach guidance lessons focused around Rachel’s Challenge, the Chick-fil-A Core Essential program and the WHO program (We Help Ourselves).  I also plan with teachers any special topics they think would benefit their students. (i.e. believing in yourself, team building skills, bullying, strangers, etc.)

Small Group Counseling:  Small groups are scheduled throughout the year.  Each group meets for six weeks for 30 minutes each week.  The discussions are focused on:  New Student Groups (New Bee’s), Divorce (Banana Splits), Grief (Missing Piece), Anger Management (Cool-Aid), Self-Esteem (Magnificent Me), and Social Skills (Communication Quest).

Individual Counseling:  Crisis and short-term counseling may be provided for students who are having trouble learning due to emotional difficulties or just need a shoulder to lean on now and then.

SST Team Facilitator:  I am responsible for conducting SST team meetings.  These meetings are to ensure that every student is learning and being served in the best possible way.

Testing Coordinator:  I am responsible for all standardized and state testing in the building.  This includes TAKS, CBA’s (Curriculum Based Assessments), CogAT, etc.
