Public Information Requests

Rockwall Independent School District, as a local governmental entity, is subject to the requirements of the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA).

All public information requests must be submitted in writing via email, fax, mail or in person. Please include enough description and detail about the information requested to enable us to accurately identify and locate the information requested. This procedure allows the Communications Department to accurately document the date each request is received and respond in writing within the required 10 business day time period.

All requests should contain the following:

• Your name
• Physical Address
• Email Address
• Phone number
• Fax number (if applicable)
• Description of the information and/or document being requested.

NOTE: The TPIA does not require governmental bodies to create new information, perform legal research, or to answer questions. The request must ask for records or information already in existence. 

The RISD will respond within 10 business days to information requests. The RISD may collect a fee as prescribed by law or regulation for the requested documents. If a fee is not prescribed by law or regulation, the fee shall be the actual cost of duplicating the record. Student Record & Transcript Requests

Student record requests fall under the guidelines set forth by The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. Parents or eligible students have the right to inspect and review the student's education records maintained by the school. Requests for student records should be directed to the current or last RISD campus your student attended. All transcript requests are processed through Parchment Paper website at this link: https://www.parchment.com/u/registration/23883/account
