Time TBA – 10 girls from Heath qualified for next week’s Area Championships in 6 of the 17 events. Rockwall will send three girls in four events to the Area meet.
Freshman Kajol Maheshwari qualified in both distance races to lead RHHS’ contingent. She finished third in the 3,200 meters (12 minutes, 27 seconds) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:32.32), just behind third-place teammate Emily Fletcher (5:32.25).
The Lady Hawks’ best event was the pole vault — with Becka Malone placing second and Katie Chandler third, both at 8 feet. Their other third-place finisher was Maia Zeno, who bettered her previous shot put standard by more than 3 feet at 33 feet, 5 1/2 inches.
Placing fourth for Heath were the 4X200-meter relay team of Maddie Mishler, Kirstin Pruitt, Cecil Ene and Reagan Frosini in 1:44.57, and Yorlynn Engmann in the 300-meter hurdles (46.89 seconds).
RHS’ Kaylee Hinton qualified in three events — winning the pole vault at 11-0, placing second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.96) and finishing third in the 300 hurdles (46.57). She barely missed qualifying with the 4X400-meter relay team that was fifth in 4:07.66.
Maia Collins, who ran the first leg in that relay, cut 4 1/2 seconds off her seed time to place second in the 800. She just missed qualifying in the 400 as well, finishing fifth in 1:01.44.
Sarah Schneider joined Hinton as a pole vault qualifier, with a fourth-place finish at 7-6. Teammate Lacey Helfferich, who also cleared 7-6, missed qualifying because more misses put her in fifth place.
