Senior Brianna Richardson finished an outstanding career at Rockwall-Heath by winning both the triple jump and long jump events at the track and field 4A State Championships in Austin.
Richardson won her second consecutive triple jump state title by soaring 40 feet, 5 1/4 inches, more than a foot longer than her nearest competitor. Earlier that day, May 11, she had leaped 18 feet, 10 1/2 inches to place first in the long jump. Richardson had finished second in the state in 2011, and was seeded second this year.
In each event, she had three jumps longer than any other competitor’s.
Richardson’s performance by itself enabled RHHS to tie for seventh in the state among 58 teams.
Her triple jump of 42 feet at the Texas Relays was the third-longest this year by any high school girl in the United States. She finished second in that meet. Aside from the Texas Relays, she won every triple jump and long jump she entered this season. Richardson also ran on Lady Hawks relay teams and played varsity basketball at RHHS.
She has signed a letter of intent for a track and field scholarship at Baylor University, one of the nation’s top collegiate programs.
