Construction on the 13th elementary campus in the Rockwall Independent School District is under way. The site of the new school, named after long-time local Fate resident Billie Stevenson, is located in the Woodcreek subdivision of Fate. The physical address for Billie Stevenson Elementary will be 636 Stevenson Drive in Fate, Texas.
On Wednesday, May 6, Mrs. Stevenson and her family were welcomed by Rockwall ISD Superintendent Jeff Bailey at a groundbreaking ceremony. Also in attendance were Rockwall ISD Board of Trustee members and administrators, officials from the City of Fate and Pogue Construction representatives.
Mrs. Stevenson is a long-tenured educator and community leader. She taught for 31 years, 26 of which were spent at Rockwall High School. The location of the new campus is geographically significant considering that Mrs. Stevenson is a life-long resident of Fate and lives near the site.
Currently, she is a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, Rockwall Area Retired Teachers Association, the teachers’ sorority Delta Kappa Gamma, Friday Study Club, RHS Ex-Students Association, Rockwall County Historical Foundation and numerous other civic and church groups. Billie Marian and her husband Bill still live in Fate and she spends many hours volunteering as one of the “Fate Girls” who promote the history of the community.
Billie Stevenson Elementary is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
