Catie White, Springer Elementary 5th grader, is one of 26 national finalists, from about 500 entries, in the Time for Kids student reporter contest. The contest launched earlier this year as a talent search program for TIME For Kids, a nationally distributed classroom news magazine.
Catie’s original article submission focused on the Dino Rocks program that was introduced to the Springer campus by their Parent Teacher Association. Her work was selected as one of top 26 submissions from across the country. The next step of the competition requires Catie to write an additional article and submit a biographical DVD.
She is currently working on her second article that spotlights Olympic Swimmer Neil Walker and his work at the Rockwall ISD aquatics facility.
Only 12 student reporters, nation-wide, will be selected by September 1, 2012 for the TIME For Kids reporter team. “We’re proud of Catie and are cheering her on in the competition,” said Springer Principal Mike Pitcher.
