Scott Smith, who currently serves as the head coach for Rockwall High School’s varsity football program, the athletic coordinator for all RHS athletic programs, and the athletic director for the Rockwall Independent School District, has submitted his resignation to the district in anticipation of another coaching position that will be announced shortly. Coach Smith’s resignation will be effective as of December 31, 2012.
Coach Smith joined Rockwall ISD in January of 2005 as the head varsity football coach for Rockwall High School. Prior to coming to Rockwall, Coach Smith had served on the coaching staffs at Baylor, SMU, and the University of Arkansas. He also served on the high school level as head coach in Garland, Duncanville, Highland Park, and Odessa-Permian. In March of 2009, Coach Smith took on the additional role of athletic director for Rockwall ISD.
“As a coach and athletic director, Scott Smith has not only been dedicated to developing outstanding student athletes, but has put equal emphasis on developing athletes who display character and integrity,” said Rockwall ISD Superintendent of Schools Jeff Bailey. “He has been a positive influence on hundreds of students during his tenure in the district and we are grateful for his service to our students and families. We wish him well in all his future endeavors and thank him for all he has done for Rockwall ISD.”
In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Smith has been involved in the development and implementation of the district’s sports marketing program—an initiative that generates approximately $200,000 annually for the general fund. He has also championed the “Honor Before Victory” program which concentrates on teaching student athletes the value of good sportsmanship.
