Rockwall and Heath Gymnastics Headed to State

Both the Rockwall girls’ and boys’ gymnastics teams won the Region I Championships. Heath’s boys and girls both placed third and also qualified for next month’s State Championships.

In the girls’ Regional competition Monday and Tuesday, Rockwall totaled 227.950 to 223.450 for runner-up Highland Park and 215.000 for Heath. The Lady Jackets’ Kailea Coles placed second all-around; RHHS’ Morgan Hines was fourth.

The RHS boys scored 327.500, with Garland second at 324.100 and the Hawks third at 319.300. For the Yellowjackets, Michael Weidman placed third all-around and Zach Bennett was sixth. Rockwall-Heath’s Trevor Newell and Cameron Callaway finished seventh and ninth all-around.

In the State Championships April 19 and 20 at RHS, the Rockwall girls will be going for their third consecutive state title and sixth overall. Only Hurst L.D. Bell has been Texas’ state champion more often. The Yellowjackets will be after their first boys’ state championship.
