The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the winners for its prestigious National Merit Scholarships. Raena Eldridge from Rockwall High School was named a National Merit Scholarship Winner.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. More than 1.5 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test during their junior year.
To compete for Merit Scholarship awards, Semifinalists first had to advance to the finalist level. About 15,000 Semifinalists advanced to the finalist stage. To advance as finalists, semifinalists had to show an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed by their principal and earn high SAT scores.
