When we embarked on the 2010-2015 Strategic Plan five years ago, we asked community, staff and parents to help us answer the question, “What do we aspire to do?”
More than 300 people participated in a collaborative process developing the strategies and action steps that have become our answer to that question.
This strategic plan served as a road map to becoming a high- performing district that prepared our community’s students for the 21st century.
Now looking back over the past five years, we can see that our efforts have been a success.
Rockwall ISD has become a destination school district, drawing both students and staff members from across DFW and the state to our community.
We are beginning to reap the rewards of not only our investment in the strategic plan, but also our community’s investment in the school district.
When people ask what makes Rockwall ISD special, I tell them it’s because our community believes, supports and trusts us. Without that foundation, we could not build the great school district that we currently have.
We must also be aware that our district faces challenges in the future. We must contend with the Texas legislature to gain adequate funding for the programs they have mandated.
We must also prepare for the continued growth in our community. Each year Rockwall ISD grows by almost 300 students. This means we must plan for the facility needs of our growing student population.
By any objective measure, our district is the strongest it has ever been. The careful creation and execution of our strategic plan has played a large role in creating the environment for that success now and in the future.
