On Friday, October 16th, a group of 6th grade students representing all Rockwall ISD elementary schools attended the TED TALKS conference at SMU. The students were able to listen to speakers of all ages, be inspired by big ideas, and engage in conversation with students from all over the Dallas area. Topics included, but were not limited to, reusable ocean waste, livable rooftops, robotics, self-image, writing club, and more.
The 6th grade students had to complete an essay to win a ticket to the TED TALKS event. Applicants were asked to include a creative component to the essay questions. Students could submit a written answer (essay, poem, etc.) video file, YouTube or art project. The theme for this year’s TEDXKids@SMU 2015 was “Unexpected!”
The following were essay questions for this year’s event:
1. What is the most unexpected thing that you’ve learned in school or in life?
2. What quality or trait about yourself surprises you?
