Welcome to my site! I have been teaching in public schools since 1997 and I love it! I have a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Brigham Young University, my Spanish Language teaching certificate is from UTSA and I have a MEd. in Curriculum and Instruction from LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA. I am currently the RHHS head boys and girls Cross Country Coach. In my many years of teaching I have worn many hats. I have been UIL coordinator, Student Government Sponsor, New Teacher mentor coordinator, Spanish Club Sponsor,2010 Teacher of the Year and Georgia Star Teacher twice. My favorite honor was having the 2014 Callaway High School Yearbook dedicated to me! I believe in being more than just a teacher in a classroom giving out information. I see students as people who I want to push, inspire and equip with a variety of skills so they can be successful in my class, but more importantly, in LIFE! I want to be your child to be a full member of the RHHS school community!

My Spanish 2 classes are fun, interactive and rich in rigorous content. I have very high expectations but give students all the tools and resources they need to excel. We work bell to bell every day and the expectation is to be ready and prepared to use Spanish in the classroom and beyond. On this site you will find links to resources that will reinforce this material and help you stay organized and aware of class events. Please use these and other great sites that can be found online to support your child. For this course, your child will need to practice, review, and repeat class content for 30-minutes a day minimum to be prepared for their next class session. I encourage attending tutorials, keeping up with grades and staying vigilant about the retake window of opportunity for grades that are low.
I am here to serve! I am part of a great team that wants every child to love and learn Spanish.

To see what we are doing each day, please refer to your child's class-specific Canvas site. Your child has a log-in and can see the curriculum plan for every day as well as all activities and class content. Add yourself as an "observer" in your child's Canvas class and you will be able to see our weekly modules and lesson slides.

The calendar links to the left are for informational purposes only. Decisions regarding content pace, assignments and testing are always adjusted/modified according to class speeds, class learning demands, unexpected events and, of course, student success and need for more/less time with material. Please remember calendars are wonderful, but are also ever-evolving documents.

Will my child be fluent in Spanish by the end of the year?

  • When learning our first language, we become what we would call fluent at about 5 years old. If you are awake 14 hours a day, 365 days a year, for 5 years, that is over 25,000 hours of listening, speaking, experiencing that language in every imaginable context. Fast forward to aquiring a second language at school, in just 45 min. a day, excluding holidays, absences and interruptions your child does not get that time or exposure. We will do our best to stay in the target language as much as possible from day one but in reality a student in Spanish one will be in the novice ability range.
