Dr. Michelle Rester

Welcome!  I teach Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology at the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy.  Our Anatomy class covers the structures of the human body and how these structures function together. I am an Internal Medicine physician, so I enjoy sharing with students how this subject applies to healthcare careers and how students can use this knowledge to help and care for future patients.  Our class is intended to give students a foundation in Anatomy & Physiology to help prepare them for college Anatomy & Physiology and to educate them about health in general.

Medical Terminology is the language of medicine and is a great introduction to the medical and healthcare professions. Students often take Med Term because they are considering a career in healthcare.  Other students take Med Term to explore whether or not health science is a subject that interests them.  Students will gain knowledge that is used daily in healthcare careers.  For students who are not interested in a healthcare career, our Med Term class will teach them great general information about their health. Med Term teaches students to understand and use medical words and word parts, as well as introduces the subject of human anatomy and physiology.

Bio:  After college and medical school, I completed my Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine, a Fellowship in Geriatrics, and practiced Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.  My husband and I have 3 adult children who all graduated from Rockwall High School.  I really enjoy working with high school students as they begin to make future career and educational plans, and I feel very privileged to share these fascinating subjects with my students.

Canvas for Class Material:  All assignments, due dates, study materials, and resources are posted and available on Canvas to students in my Anatomy and Med Term classes.   Assignment grades are first posted in my Canvas courses and are frequently uploaded to Skyward.  Please note that students' grades in Skyward are the official grades and supercede grades posted in Canvas if there is a discrepancy between the two.

Class Schedule:    Anatomy & Physiology classes:   3rd & 4th periods (A Day) and 6th & 7th pds (B Day)

Medical Terminology classes:   2nd pd (A Day) and 5th pd (B Day)

Tutoring Schedule  Mondays 4:00-5:00 and Thursdays 8:00-8:30 in my classroom, Rm B205 at the Dr. Gene Burton Academy. Additional tutoring times may be available by appt.  An Activity Bus leaves Rockwall-Heath High School and Rockwall High School and brings students to the Academy after 8th pd most afternoons.  However, there are no buses that take students home from the Academy after tutoring.  Students must arrange their own transportation home from the Academy after tutoring.  Students must also arrange their own transportation from the Academy to their home campus after morning tutoring since no buses run from the Academy to the high schools in the morning.

Conference Times by appt Please contact me at Michelle.Rester@Rockwallisd.org to arrange. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response.

Class Textbook:  We use a classroom set of textbooks, and students have been given access and directions to the online textbook (Hole's Anatomy and Physiology) for use outside of the classroom.  To view the online textbook, students can go to their Google Dashboard and click on the red McGraw-Hill tile to access the textbook.
