• Exemptions qualify the student from taking the TSIA in either English Language Arts/Reading and/or Math. Exemptions must be sent to the intended post-secondary institution officially in order to qualify. (Example: SAT scores need to be sent via Collegeboard, ACT scores via ACT.org) The Higher Education Institution will then advise the student on college course placement.

    TSIA Exemptions:

SAT administered AFTER March 2016 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) minimum score of 480, Mathematics minimum score of 530 (no combined score needed)

ACT score (on or before February 14, 2023) of 23 or higher on the ACT composite and a minimum of 19 on both the English and math tests.

ACT score (on or after February 15, 2023) combined English and Reading of 40 or higher,  math a 22 or higher.

    TSIA Waivers:

Waivers are only used for students enrolling in dual credit. The waiver is used to allow students in the college level courses. Once the student completes the college level course, they are then exempt from that TSIA requirement.

    Acceptable Waivers:

STAAR English II Score of 4000 or higher, STAAR Algebra I Score of 4000 or higher PLUS a final grade of 70 or higher in Algebra II.

PSAT Reading/Writing score of 460 or higher, PSAT Math score of 510 or higher.

Students only need exemptions or waivers for the subject they wish to enroll in.
