• In the Principles of Public Safety course we will look at the foundations of law, and the students will learn a little bit about each of the following Public Safety career fields; Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Corrections, EMS and Security.  During this class the students will also learn about our court systems, citizenship, health and wellness, ethics, employment skills, and a few other topics. In class, the students will have the opportunity to do some hands-on assignments such as CPR, mock court and crime scene evidence collection.

In addition to Principles of Public Safety, we have a Law Club that meets weekly at the GBCCA after school. Students are NOT required to join the Law Club. The club meetings are Tuesdays after school at the GBCCA on John King Blvd. The students who want to participate in the Law Club should ride the after-school activity bus to the GBCCA but must be picked up on the southwest side of the GBCCA by a parent or other adult no later than 6:00pm.  The Law Club will be competing in a regional competition in the fall with the hopes of earning a berth in the state competition. The various events the students may participate in include Opening Statements and Closing Arguments for the courtroom sections, physical agility, traffic stops - both felony and misdemeanor, building search techniques, domestic disturbance calls, and for the first time this year we are able to have students compete in the forensic science category.

This course is the first in the Public Safety LAW endorsement sequence, and if the student remains in this program, they will continue with classes in Law Enforcement, Court Systems and Practices, Criminal Investigations and Forensics in 10th-12th grades.
