The goal of student discipline is to collaboratively work with the student, parents, and school staff to determine the root causes of unacceptable behavior, academics, or attendance, and to devise a plan to change the behavior to help the student become successful. Rockwall ISD follows a cycle of student success intervention process that involves teachers, administrators, parents, and other resources reasonably calculated to prevent recurrence of misconduct and misbehavior.
All campus-level discipline decisions may be appealed directly to the principal and no further. Request for an appeal by parents to the principal must be made in writing (no form) within 5 days of the decision. Decisions of the principal are final and cannot be appealed further.
Alternative Placement Appeals
All appeals regarding placement at the discipline alternative education program require a hearing with the principal and then the Central Intervention Team before being appealed through Student & Family Services. Request for an appeal by parents must be made in writing (no form) within 5 days of the decision at each level. Decisions of the Director of Student & Family Services are final and cannot be appealed further.
Complaints regarding expulsions must be made by parents on the district form within 15 days of the decision to the principal. After receipt of the principal’s decision, the parents have 10 days to grieve to the Director of Student & Family Services, using the district form 2nd Appeal. The process for Complaints & Grievances follows Board policy FNG(LOCAL).
