What is Battle of the Books?
A voluntary reading contest called Battle of the Books will begin this fall semester and continue into the spring promoting reading in grades 3, 4, 5, & 6.
In Battle of the Books two grade level teams from each campus will advance to the district competition. Each team is formed from one of the following grade level combinations:
Teams consisting of five 3rd and 4th graders (plus 1 alternate)
Teams consisting of five 5th and 6th graders (plus 1 alternate)
There may be an unlimited number of participants at the school level. During the last week of February, there will be a campus level competition to determine which teams of students will advance to the District level competition.
Students are required to read ten books chosen by Battle of the Books. There is a list for the 3/4 grade teams and a list for the 5/6 grade teams. The school library will have at least one copy of each book (most books will have multiple copies). Students may opt to purchase their own books in order to make notes and highlight information if they wish.
Students must commit to read all ten if at all possible but at least seven of the ten books and attend school practices on designated days.
If you are interested in volunteering to co-coach a team, please email Mrs. Burt at firstname.lastname@example.org
