Social Studies Curriculum Overview
Rockwall ISD’s Social Studies curriculum helps students understand their roles as active citizens in their community, state, nation, and world. By examining the past and making connections to the present, students develop the critical thinking skills needed to make informed decisions in a democratic society.
Built upon the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) foundation, our curriculum is guided by five core principles:
-
Integrated Strands: We blend history, geography, economics, government, citizenship, culture, technology, and society into every course.
-
Active Citizenship: Students learn to actively understand and participate in the world around them.
-
Experiential Learning: Instruction is designed to be relevant and meaningful, utilizing diverse teaching strategies and real-world experiences.
-
Strategic Alignment: Our curriculum is vertically and horizontally aligned to eliminate learning gaps and deepen conceptual understanding.
