CMS Celebrations

  • The 2020-2021 Cain Middle School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Preston Prior, has been named a Naitonal Winner of the Citation of Excellence which is part of the 2021 National Wind Band Honors competition. This is the highest honor in this division. Only 4 bands earned this distinction across the country. This is the first time the band has received this award in the school’s 21-year history. The 2020-2021 Cain Middle School Honors Band, under the baton of the former director Trevor Ousey, has been named a Commended Winner in the 2021 Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors competition. This is the second time the band has received this award.

The Citation of Excellence and Mark of Excellence are national music competitions that recognize music programs and their ensembles for high standards in music performance. The competition is sponsored by The Foundation for Music Education, a national organization dedicated to the support and advancement of music education. Bands are judged by nationally respected adjudicators and directors. This year’s adjudicators included: Richard Floyd – Texas UIL State Director of Music Emeritus, Don Wilcox – Director of Bands Emeritus – West Virginia University, Kevin Sedatole – Director of Bands – Michigan State University, and Dr. Timothy Rhea – Director of Bands and Music Activities – Texas A&M University.

This year over 301 bands from across the country submitted recordings into the various divisions. The Cain Band staff would like to thank our team, our students, our families, Mr. Randle – Principal of Cain MS, Mr. Sumrak – RISD Fine Arts Director, and all of the amazing staff at Cain Middle School for supporting our students and our program – we look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence in the Cain Mustang Band!

The 7th grade teams will play their first game on Monday, November 15th, at home against Lovejoy. The games will be played at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30, C-B-A. Come out and support on Monday for 7th grade and Thursday when our 8th grade takes on Lovejoy here at Cain!

Cross Country

  • Cross Country is officially underway! The early mornings and many miles are already being added up. The teams had their first meet with very little practice beforehand, and they did a great job. They will have three more meets, and the kids are enjoying it so far!

  • Cain MS Football was nothing shy of excellent this year. Both 7th and 8th grade teams added up a record of 32-4. The teams were dominant on the defensive side of the ball during the entire season. The 8th grade teams finished with a record of 8-1 for A team, and 9-0 for B team. The 7th grade group showed that they were ready to play at the middle school level. The 7th grade A team finished 9-0, while the B team finished with a 6-3 record. Football season is a grind, and these groups both gave Heath High School some excitement looking into the future.

  • The CMS Girls Volleyball teams had a successful season learning new skills and growing in their passion for the game! The volleyball coaches had a blast getting the opportunity to teach the players and getting to know the girls better. We look forward to starting basketball season and continuing on with off season. CMS Girls Athletes are the best!
