High School Art Students Advance to State Competition

Congratulations to the 15 high school visual art students who qualify for the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) state competition. In February, students from Rockwall High School and Rockwall-Heath High School competed at the regional level. In total, 141 students earned regional medals, and 15 students will advance to the state competition, which will be held in late April in San Marcos.
The Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) is a program organized by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) to recognize and celebrate student achievement in visual arts. VASE is the largest art competition of its kind in the United States, designed for middle school and high school students across Texas. Students submit original 2D or 3D artwork that demonstrates creativity, technical skill, and personal expression. Each piece is evaluated in a one-on-one interview with a juror, where students discuss their artistic choices, process, and intent. Artwork is scored at the regional and state levels using a rating scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the highest. Top-rated pieces advance to the State VASE event, where students can earn gold medals and scholarships.
