Rockwall ISD Hosts 10th Annual Elementary Robotics Tournament

Rockwall ISD Hosts 10th Annual Elementary Robotics Tournament
Luci Mouton

Rockwall ISD celebrated its 10th Annual Elementary Robotics Tournament on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy. Thirty-two teams from nine elementary schools participated in the VEX IQ Mix & Match challenge, representing Amy Parks-Heath, Howard Dobbs, Lupe Garcia, Grace Hartman, Sherry & Paul Hamm, Celia Hays, Dorris A. Jones, Nebbie Williams, and Dorothy Smith Pullen Elementary Schools.

While the event featured friendly competition, its primary focus was providing elementary students with an opportunity to experience the excitement of a robotics tournament in a supportive, low-pressure setting. For campuses with after-school robotics clubs, the tournament offered students a chance to showcase their skills, learn from peers across the district, and gain exposure to the collaborative spirit of STEM learning.

Special thanks go to members of the Rockwall High School Full Metal Jackets Robotics Team and the Rockwall-Heath High School Black Hawks Robotics Team for volunteering to run the event and providing tours of their high school robotics workspaces.

Rikki Smith, Director of Instructional Technology and Media Services, expressed her appreciation to the elementary robotics staff and parent coaches for their time, mentorship, and support of student innovation.
