Rockwall ISD is proud to announce the 2025 Sheri Stodghill Fowler BEST Teachers of the Year, recognizing two outstanding first-year educators for their exceptional impact in the classroom.
The Best (Beginning Educators…Successful Teacher) program supports and celebrates first-year educators across the district.
Sarah Fladeland, a first-grade teacher at Ouida Springer Elementary, has been named the Elementary BEST Teacher of the Year. Fladeland said the BEST program gave her the support, guidance and encouragement she needed to navigate the challenges of being a new teacher.
“Receiving this award is extra special to me because I grew up in Rockwall ISD,” said Fladeland. “This district didn’t just educate me—it shaped me into the person and teacher I am today. I’m so proud to serve the community that raised me, and I can’t wait to continue building my legacy here in Rockwall ISD.”
Alexis (Lexie) Hawkins, an American Sign Language teacher at Rockwall High School, has been named the Secondary BEST Teacher of the Year. Hawkins said the BEST program has helped her grow as a teacher, allowing her to build connections with students and colleagues.
“[The program] has helped me gain all the support I could need to thrive and advocate for my students and myself to grow our ASL program every day,” said Hawkins.
Fladeland and Hawkins will be formally recognized at the upcoming Rockwall ISD Teacher of the Year Celebration for their dedication and commitment to student success.
