Student Talent Shines: 15 Rockwall ISD Artists Headed to State Competition

Student Talent Shines: 15 Rockwall ISD Artists Headed to State Competition
Luci Mouton

Congratulations to the 15 high school visual art students who qualify for the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) state competition. Eleven Rockwall High School and four Rockwall-Heath High School students will compete at the state competition in April in San Marcos.

The Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) is a program organized by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) to recognize and celebrate student achievement in visual arts. VASE is the largest art competition of its kind in the United States, open to middle school and high school students across Texas. Students submit original 2D or 3D artwork that demonstrates creativity, technical skill, and personal expression. Each piece is evaluated in a one-on-one interview with a juror, where students discuss their artistic choices, process, and intent. Artwork is scored at the regional and state levels on a 1-4 scale, with 4 being the highest. Top-rated pieces advance to the State VASE event, where students can earn gold medals and scholarships.
