Spreading Holiday Cheer

donationThis holiday season, the Utley Middle School Cheerleaders ran a donation drive for food and basic toiletries for Women in Need (WIN) of Rockwall. Upon completion of the drive, JillAnn Gamble, WIN's Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, visited Utley to pick up the supplies and talk to the cheerleaders about her organization's mission. The girls learned precisely where the donations would go, who they would be helping, and how they would impact the community.

The WIN organization offers aid to women (families) in unsafe home environments. Some of the women who depend on WIN leave their homes with nothing, and the items that the cheerleaders donated will help those women during their transition into independence.

"Helping someone today gives them a chance of a better tomorrow." Ms. McGahee, cheerleading sponsor, said. "This is something I tell the girls to inspire them to donate."

"You never know how one little donation can positively impact a family or a woman in need. So it made me feel really good to help," Isabella, a seventh-grade cheerleader, said of her experience with this community service project.
