UMS Symphonic Band Earns Sweepstakes

On April 21st and April 22nd, the Symphonic and Honors Band students traveled to West Mesquite HS for UIL Evaluation. Students practiced their musical pieces for months leading up to this event and were both excited and nervous to perform.
Students could be heard motivating each other as they left for the event in the halls. When asked how he felt about the competitions, one student answered, "There are two types of people, those who crack under pressure and those who thrive under pressure. We're going to thrive; I know we are."
That student was correct! Symphonic Band gave a fantastic performance at UIL and received not only the Sweepstakes award (a one overall both on stage and in sight-reading) but received a score of 1 from all six judges! This marks the second-ever Sweepstakes award (and first time consecutively) from an Utley Non-Varsity band.
Congratulations to the students who worked hard and saw it pay off!
