6th Grade North America Unit

6th grade has been busy embracing the new district writing initiative.  Each day students participate in a mini-lesson using a mentor text or a student writing sample which helps students focus on the development of their own writing.  Students regularly reflect on their progress and compare their progress to the goal they set at the beginning of the grading period.  The students continue to develop their writing skills as they write across the curriculum.  Their North America foldable is an example of the writing they do in their social studies class.  Sixth grade recently finished up their North America unit of study by writing a reflection of their learning in a foldable and by creating totems similar to those created by the Pacific West indigenous peoples.
