Red Ribbon Week at Jones

Book Characters

Jones Elementary recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week! Ms. Rivera, the Jones counselor, organized the week and filled it with fun events, meaningful lessons, and interactive activities.

Monday kicked off with “Proud to Be Drug Free” day. Students wore red to show their participation and Ms. Rivera also encouraged students to sign a “Healthy Me” pledge poster during PE. Ms. Rivera also presented lessons in individual classes and had the sixth graders attend a virtual presentation on Red Ribbon week.

Tuesday was Dress for Success day, conveniently scheduled on picture day, and students dressed their best for their successful future without drugs. Ms. Rivera also moderated a virtual presentation for the 5th grade students.

Wednesday and Thursday were both filled with fun themes and had the students rocking their favorite sports teams jerseys and work out clothes.

Throughout the entire week, Ms. Mosby, the art teacher, worked with students to decorate and design a book cover with one of their favorite literary characters. Students drew the characters in detail and planned out their character costumes to wear. Friday was the big day! “My Story is Drug Free” day had students and teachers dressing up and looking like they stepped right out of books. We saw Elephant and Piggie, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Junie B. Jones, The Hungry Caterpillar, and more.

It was a Red Ribbon Week to remember! Ms. Rivera and the students rocked it!
