Four Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy DECA students competed among 14,000 from the United States and multiple countries at the DECA International Competition (ICDC) in Orlando. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and business management. Avery Gaston (RHHS senior) earned “Top 10 Marketing Exam International Finalist” in her Apparel and Accessories Marketing event on the International stage.
“All four students have testimony of grit and personal victories. This is Rockwall ISD’s third year to have marketing students earn an International award which is an extraordinary accomplishment,” says teacher and advisor, Mrs. Dori Brown. “As a student in the Business, Marketing and Finance Program at the GBCCA, I have enjoyed being able to compete in DECA—where I’ve been provided the opportunity to enhance my marketing knowledge, leadership skills, professional learning behaviors and my competitive advantages,” says senior, Avery Gaston.
DECA would like to thank our supporting Rockwall business partners for their generosity and mentorship; Jeff Hicks with Rockwall Ford, Corky Randolph with Alliance Bank, Lacy Deckard with Ebby Halliday and Dak Hartsock with ACI Wealth Advisor.
