New Lost and Found Cart by Former Student
Former Shannon Student Builds Lost and Found Cart for School
Brooke Krantz, former Shannon Elementary student, currently in 7th grade at Utley Middle School, started her Girl Scouts Silver Award last May and delivered her final project this December of 2020. She spent over 50 hours on this project and ended up with an amazing Lost and Found cart that Shannon students will be using for years.
According to the girlscouts.org web site, when Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award—the highest honor a Cadette can achieve.
Brooke started when she met with Shannon’s Principal, Mr. Steven Pesek in May, 2019. Her notes said that “the school needed a moveable lost and found cart that was sturdy and would be able to store large amounts of coats. This will help the whole school (900 students) with locating lost items. The school is also going to have a team of students that sort clothing and items hang those that don't have a student's name in them and deliver those that do. By students finding lost items they will not need to buy new items.”
Brooke also documented, “I learned that you always measure twice. We had a bar that was too long and we had to take it back to Home Depot to get it re-cut. Also we initially did not by enough stain for the wood and had to go back and buy some more. Lastly, sometimes when you get frustrated or tired you need to take a break and then try again later.”
Shannon Elementary School is so very proud of Brooke and all the time, work, expense and love she poured into their new Lost and Found Cart! They can roll it all around the building on the sturdy casters she installed to load, store and deliver items throughout the building. They want her to visit often to witness the long-lasting benefits of her gift!
