Harrell Named New Head Football Coach at Rockwall-Heath High School

 

John Harrell, Assistant Head Coach and Run Game Coordinator, has served as a key member of Rockwall Heath High School’s highly successful football program since 2019. He also brings experience in coaching successful high school programs in Stephenville, Midlothian, and Garland ISD’s. During his career, Coach Harrell’s athletic experiences include Offensive Coordinator, Head Powerlifting Coach, and Run Game Coordinator. He has also been a World History and Geography teacher. Coach Harrell’s first coaching experience was at the collegiate level as an Offensive Line and Tight End Graduate assistant coach at Tarleton State University, then coaching the same positions at Coffeyville Community College and Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Coach Harrell earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Studies and a Master’s Degree in Education from Tarleton State University. John Harrell’s experiences include: Assistant Head Coach and Run Game Coordinator at Rockwall-Heath High School. The Hawks were District Champions and Regional SemiFinalists in 2021 and Regional Finalists in 2020. Since coming to RHHS, the football teams have been very productive offensively. In 2021, the Hawk offense averaged 47 points and 298 yards rushing per game. Respectively, the 2020 team averaged 50 points and 258 yards rushing per game. While at coaching at Stephenville High School, the team was district champion and state semi-finalist averaging 42 points per game in 2017. He was a First Team All-State Defensive Tackle and 4A Defensive Player of the Year for Texas while at Stephenville High School. He then went on to a successful career at the University of Houston and Tarleton State University, where he was First Team Lone Star Conference center.
