The Rockwall HS String Orchestra Excels at the 2017-18 TMEA Honor String Orchestra Contest

The Rockwall HS String Orchestra, under the Direction of Charlsie Griffiths, recently finished tenth overall in the 2017-18 TMEA Honor String Orchestra Contest. The group performed Joaquin Turina’s Oracion del Torero and Hubert Parry’s Lady Radnor’s Suite.

Dozens of the top orchestra programs in Texas submit recordings each year to determine who will be invited to play for the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Conference. Judges listen to the recorded performances and choose the top groups as finalists.

Being named a TMEA Honor Orchestra is equivalent to a UIL State Championship. This is the second year for the Rockwall HS Orchestras to advance to finals and be considered for this most prestigious award.

Earlier this year, the RHS Chamber Orchestra was also named a Commended Winner in the Foundation for Music Education’s National Orchestra Honors Project.
