Amy Parks-Heath ES Sixth Graders Collect Canned Food for Helping Hands with their Roller Coaster Park

Amy Parks-Heath ES Sixth Graders Collect Canned Food for Helping Hands with their Roller Coaster Park

Amy Parks-Heath ES sixth grade students worked collaboratively to design and construct a working marble roller coaster, which would be displayed at their own Roller Coaster Park.

Students “paid” entry to the roller coaster park by donating a canned food item.  The sixth graders were very excited because they were able to collect 466 canned food items, which will be donated to the Helping Hands food pantry.

Once their roller coaster was completed, they then had to analyze it by finding the ride time, the length of the track and the speed at which the marble traveled through the roller coaster.

“The most exciting part was not only the opportunity to share their knowledge of force and motion with the younger,” said Assistant Principal Danielle Patterson. “It was giving all the students at Amy Parks the opportunity to give back to the community.”
