Cullins-Lake Pointe ES 5th Graders Helping Others in Need at Colonial Night

The 5th graders at Cullins-Lake Pointe ES recently held Colonial Night, raising $500 for Juan Seguin Elementary, who was affected by Hurricane Harvey.

They made and sold items at handmade booths similar to items made and sold during the Colonial times. Parents, friends and other family members paid for the goods and services as the students simulated free enterprise in the colony.

“I talked to the students about ways we could help in our community and together we decided on helping with Hurricane Harvey,” said Mrs. Gayle Kidd, the organizer of the event. “We all felt like our fine arts program supports us so much that we could not imagine not having the supplies to have that support.”

Juan Seguin Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD was the students chose to assist. The elementary asked for items for their music program like music stands, instrument posters, Djembe drums and composer biography books.

Traci Patterson is the music teacher at Juan Seguin Elementary School, and she remarked, “Thank you so much. The posters will add so much color and visual interest to our room, and my 5th graders loved being able to stand up to practice their recorder instruments with the new music stands you gave us.”
