Pullen Student Self-Publishes Mystery Novel

Godwin Okojie, a 6th grader at Pullen Elementary, recently self-published a mystery novel: October Johnson: The Secret of the Old Factory.

The novel is the first in a four-part series about an 18-year-old sleuth, October Johnson, and a team called the Dynamic detectives.

“Story-telling is interesting and fun,” said Godwin. “It’s a long process but once you get to the end, it’s all good.”

In the book, they travel to the fairy town, Rockwall, to solve mysteries.

“I’m proud of his accomplishment and his dedication to story-telling,” said Principal Michael Stuart. “It’s great to see someone at such a young age to be able to put forth all of this. He has an awesome support system at home and here at Pullen as well.”

Godwin has been writing since he was in first grade and he makes it a daily routine to get up at 5 a.m. to write before school.

“I enjoy Godwin’s use of onomatopoeia; it adds a lot of action and excitement,” said Library Media Specialist Karen Meno. “It’s been so much fun since he started writing it in the fourth grade and seeing him go through the process.”

The book is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and at the Pullen ES Library.
