Students who are in Utley, Williams and Cain Middle Schools BIM course recently shadowed local employers as part of their career exploration segment.  Fifteen businesses, three Rockwall ISD elementary schools and two CTE program directors at the Burton Academy helped host 8th graders for the day.

"Connecting students with local employers and seeing the unique relationships and learning that occurs from hands on mentorships is truly amazing,” said Megan Shutt, CTE Counselor. “Students can gain real insight into the careers they want to be when they grow up through relationships with the local businesses and taking advantage of opportunities that arise."

Some of the local businesses included City of Rockwall, Rockwall Police Department, Rockwall Fire Department, Stonebridge Veterinary Hospital, North Star, Lowrance Dental, American National Bank, Regal Realtors, Belfiore Spa, Whitmore, Rockwall Parks & Recreation, Lake Pointe Travel, Synergy Sports and Sebastian Construction.

Students took career assessments in their BIM class then filled out a career survey and listed their top three careers to determine where they would shadow.

Students were taught workplace expectations and attire prior to the event.
