Guinness World Record Holder and National Champion BMX Rider, Matt Wilhelm Wows Students at Jones ES Virtually

The students at Jones Elementary recently attended a virtual assembly featuring Guinness World Record Holder and National Champion BMX Rider, Matt Wilhelm.  The assembly was coordinated by Ms. Rivera, the Jones Counselor, who ensured that all students had access to the assembly, including remote learners.

During the presentation, Wilhelm used GoPro cameras to give the students the experience of being BMX riders themselves. Wilhelm also has a personal spin record and attempted to break his record for the kids.

“It was cool when he beat his own record,” said Ivan, one of the Jones ES students. “He did 45 spins, and his old record was 44. I really liked watching it.”

He used a glow in the dark bike and gear for the grand finale, which was a hit with the students. This is the same type of act he performed when competing on America’s Got Talent.

“When he was glowing in the dark, I thought it was really amazing,” said Joel, a third grader. “And then I remember he talked about how if you want to do something, keep practicing, and you’ll get better.”

The assembly wasn’t just fantastic tricks; Wilhelm also included lessons on a wide variety of topics, including resilience, staying positive, having a growth mindset, how to handle bullying, the power of words and the importance of kindness.
