Rockwall High School Counselors Honored with CREST Award

The Rockwall High School counseling department has been selected as a CREST Leadership Award Winner for 2020. The leadership award is given to outstanding counseling programs across the state of Texas who have been awarded the CREST award for three previous years.

“This year was just like any other, until it wasn’t,” said Katie Duran, lead counselor at Rockwall HS. “As counselors, we scrambled to find creative ways to reach our students through this pandemic, but we found out that what’s truly essential about our job didn’t change much at all.  We are still able to connect with all of our students and we are still able to build relationships and make an impact on their lives, which is what matters most.”

CREST winners will be recognized during our annual conference, which will be held virtually in February.

In 2005, Texas School Counselor Association began a program called CREST to recognize schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools receiving CREST awards have demonstrated a commitment using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal social domains.
