2021 REF Teaching Grants

There are less than nine weeks until the last day of school, and the Rockwall ISD Education Foundation (REF) wants to help RISD educators and students have a strong finish to this unpredictable school year. As a result, the spring 2021 REF Teaching Grants were created to provide for the unexpected needs due to the pandemic. "The REF is excited to award these deserving teachers with our spring grants. We recognize the challenging times in which they have been working," shared Cindy Tayem, REF Vice President-Awards and Grants.

The award-winning proposals include requests for books in classrooms and campus libraries, exercise mats for physical education classes and plant specimens to understand kingdom classifications. The grants review committee approved more than $7,000 dollars of funding for 17 projects, from 24 educators at 11 campuses across the district. The number that matters most is 1,574 which is the number of RISD students the grants will impact. “We asked applicants to focus on fundamental materials and methods and save their trailblazing ideas for our innovative teaching grants next fall.” explained Ashlei Neill, REF executive director.
