Rockwall HS Finishes 2nd place in nation
The Rockwall HS Walk the Line and Rockwall-Heath HS Infiniti A Capella choirs recently competed at the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA) finals in New York where Rockwall HS finished 2nd place in the nation.
To earn a spot in the finals, groups need to win in their division. Rockwall-Heath HS Infiniti choir won the Southwest Division which is made up of schools from Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado.
Rockwall HS Walk the Line and Sting placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Southwest Division, advancing to the national Wild Card.
The Wildcard round is made up of all the 2nd and 3rd place groups in the nation. They take the top scoring group to finals. Walk the Line won the Wild Card with Sting as the Runner Up.
Additionally, at Finals and semifinals, Rockwall HS Junior, Gaby White, was awarded Best Choreography and Rockwall-Heath HS Landon Bradford, was named Outstanding Soloist for his performance of I’m Coming Round.
The ICHSA — International Championship of High School A Cappella — was founded in 2001 out of the growing interest in a cappella singing at the high school level. We’ve since seen an explosion in participation and talent, and many of the high school groups could hold their own competing at the college level. The tournament now has grown to include 250 groups competing in quarterfinals and semifinals in 8 regions nationwide. The finals are in NYC’s Town Hall Theater.
