Full Metal Jackets Wins Chairman's Award!

Team 1296, Full Metal Jackets from Rockwall High School, competed this year in the FIRST in Texas district robotics competition in Fort Worth on March 18-19th, 2022. The team's robot made it to the semi-finals and lost by just TWO points! The Chairman's subteam presented in front of judges telling them all about the teams initiatives: starting STEM Gals (an all female robotics competition), mentoring special needs students in robotics, creating younger robotics teams (K-8th), advocating for STEM funding on Capitol Hill to help Title l schools get funding for STEM education, helping boy and girl scouts earn their robotics badge with hands-on demonstrations, and purchasing LEGO Spike Kits for elementary schools in Rockwall ISD. The Chairman’s Award is the most prestigious award a team can earn at a FIRST Robotics Competition because it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to follow as well as showing the purpose and goals of FIRST Robotics. The team answered the judges questions and was honored with this prestigious award advancing the team to the state championship on April 7-9th in Houston.
