Pullen Students Launch “Books and Board Games” Service Project

On January 17th, a group of Pullen students gathered at Brookdale Summer Ridge Assisted Living for the first of their “Books and Board Games” service project visits.  Students and residents played board games and read books together.  Both the seniors and the students enjoyed the time together, as was evident by the many smiles and the sounds of laughter reverberating throughout the room.  Third grader Gabriella Roper liked playing games with the residents because “they were friendly.”  She thought it was an important thing to do because the seniors would like the entertainment.  “It was fun to read my books to the older people and play games with them,” said Kristah Campos, a first grader.   Campos continued to say, “They told us about themselves and listened to me read.”

Pullen students have been challenged to complete three hours of community service per semester.  The “Books and Board Games” program provides opportunities for students to complete those hours.

Every third Wednesday of the month, Pullen students can participate in “Books and Board Games” at Brookdale Summer Ridge Assisted Living Center. This is a time for students to read books and play board games with the residents who call Brookdale their home. Below you will find the link to sign-up and the dates “Books and Board Games” is taking place.
