I am excited to be part of the Shannon 6th grade team!  I began my career teaching 4th grade in Plano ISD after graduating from college.  I quickly learned that math is my passion and changed my instructional focus after teaching two years.  I moved up to 8th grade where I taught Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 for five years in Garland ISD.  Algebra is an exciting time in the math world!  Introducing a new system of mathematical knowledge to students is exhilarating. During my years of teaching 8th grade, however, I began to notice a pattern.  Many students didn't have a good grasp of basic math principles and struggled immensely as a result.  I determined to move back down to the lower grades and work to build a strong foundation for my students that could carry them through their middle school and high school years.  This decision brought me to Rockwall ISD in 2005.  I taught 5th grade math for two years before having my own children and taking a hiatus from teaching.  I returned to classroom in August 2015.  

I love math and love helping my students develop an appreciation for number relationships and deeper number sense!! We are going to have a great year!  It's awesome to be a Shannon Star!!
