Craft and Sculpture I Course Description

  • I am very excited to let you know that I have designed C&S 1 with very high rigor and will be teaching the kids how to use a variety of sculpting tools; therefore it’s extremely important that students understand the importance of working safely with art supplies/tools. I want to stress the importance of you speaking to your child about our classroom procedures and working safely in class. It is a large class and I really need them focused and paying attention when I am teaching the use of tools and various processes.

Please remember that art class is not only about creating a great project, but also about the process it takes to get there. The process of art teaches problem-solving skills, patience, responsibility, creativity, and critical thinking. Therefore, do not worry about this class if you feel that you are not the best artist; with dedication you will do great.

I have sent an information sheet home to update your contact information and to collect art fees, please make sure you fill these out and return them to me as soon as possible. I would also like to post student art work on the school web page whenever possible. I need your written permission to be able to do this, so please fill out the paper completely. If you would prefer that you child’s name, picture and/or artwork not appear on the site please indicate so on the same sheet.

Also, this year I will allow students to listen to their MP3 players during class on workdays only, please see rules and procedures for detailed rules on this. I would like you to speak to your child about choosing music which is appropriate for school, please stress the importance of this to your child. If your child chooses to use his/her player in class they are fully responsible for it, school administrators (or myself) will not look for misplaced or stolen players.

Please let me now if you have any questions and feel free to contact me at any time.
