CTE Dual Credit Program Options

  • The Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy offers multiple opportunities for CTE Dual Credit!  Through Collin College, students are able to earn dual credit through the following programs: 

      • Health Science
      • Automotive Technician
      • Automotive Collision
      • Welding
      • HVAC

  • Health Science Programs

    Two health science dual credit programs are offered through Collin College in partnership with Rockwall ISD as two-year programs - Patient Care Technician (PCT) and Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician. The programs are taught at the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy; however, some clinical and lab components may take place off site. All programs are operated by Collin College. Students must complete all entrance requirements for the programs as determined by Collin College.

  • Automotive Technician

    The Automotive Technician program is designed to prepare students for high-skill, high-demand positions in the automotive industry. This program is taught at the Collin College Technical campus in Allen, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m.-9:50 a.m., missing periods 1, 2, & 3.   Transportation is provided for those who need it. Completers will have opportunities in dealerships, large tire, lube and repair chains, as well as, independent shops. In addition to earning stackable certificates, marketable skills, and AAS degrees, completers will be prepared to earn industry recognized ASE certifications qualifying them for Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR), Automotive Service Technician (AST), or Master Automobile Service Technology (MAST) designation.

    Please note this program requires students to complete the entire course of sequence to earn the industry certifications. Two-year programs should be started in a student's junior year. If the student starts their senior year, they can finish the course of sequence after graduation with Collin College.

  • Automotive Collision Technology

    The Collision Technology program is designed to prepare students for high‐skill, high‐demand positions in the collision industry. This program is taught at the Collin College Technical campus in Allen, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m.-10:50 a.m., missing periods 1, 2, & 3.   Transportation is provided for those who need it.  There are two AAS pathways that students can choose. The AAS with guided work experience allows students to reinforce what they have learned in the classroom and lab. Each semester, the student attends classes for 8 weeks and then works side‐by‐side with a mentor for 8 weeks. The other AAS pathway allows students to attend classes the entire semester. Completers will have opportunities in auto body shops with major dealerships, large collision repair chains as well as independent shops. In addition to earning marketable skills, stackable certificates, and an AAS degree, completers will earn multiple industry recognized I‐CAR certifications and prepare for ASE certifications.

If the student starts their senior year, they can finish the course of sequence after graduation with Collin College.

  • Welding

    The Welding program is taught at the Collin College Technical Campus in Allen Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m.-11:50 a.m. Students will only have three classes on their high school campus. Transportation is provided for those who need it.  The Welding career field is part of the Manufacturing Career Cluster and includes careers that plan, manage, and perform the processing of raw materials into intermediate or final products and the related professional and technical support activities. Possible careers in Welding include: Welder, Precision Layout Technician, Solder, and Brazier, Calibration Technician, Electromechanical Technician, Safety Coordinator, Material Handler, Quality Control Inspector, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineer, and Production Manager.

  • HVAC

    The HVAC career field is under the Architecture and Construction Career Cluster.  This program is taught at the Collin College Technical Campus in Allen Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m.-11:50 a.m. Students will only have three classes on their high school campus. Transportation is provided for those who need it.  You will learn how to work safely and responsibly within Environmental Protection Agency guidelines and standards that apply to the HVAC industry, and identify and use HVAC equipment, components and tools, while understanding their functions within the industry. You will also learn common mechanical, electrical and electronic components such as compressors, switches, thermostats, motors and fans. You will even be able to practice all of the techniques you learn with heat pumps, heating units, a/c units, refrigeration units and more with hands-on instruction in Collin College facilities.
