Meet day responsibilities

  • Please look over the following checklist for meet day (and day before) responsibilities:

    - Most of the time, afternoon practice will be released early on the day before a meet (RHS guys only)
    - Bring $7.00 cash the day before every meet for food (WMS guys only)
    - There will not be morning practice on the day of a meet (WMS guys only)
    - WMS athletes will need navy blue socks for competition
    - RHS athletes will need orange socks for competition
    - All Athletes need to remember to bring: competition bag, uniform (tunic, shorts, pants, socks), warm ups, and grips (if needed)
    - All Athletes will need a ride home from their school after riding the bus home from all meets outside the school district
    - WMS Athletes will need a ride home from meet site only for meets within our school district
    - All RHS meets will have a return bus ride home

The following items will be issued to each team member by the school. These items will be returned at the end of the season:
    - Competition bag
    - Uniform (tunic, shorts, pants)
    - warm ups (jacket and pants)

How long do the socks need to be?
Socks will not be issued by the school. They will need to be purchased by the parents. The socks only need to be long enough to cover up the foot up to the ankle. They will be worn under the competition pants and need to cover all of the skin.

    Does my son need grips?
Grips are not necessary for a beginner level gymnast. Once the gymnast reaches the level in which he needs grips, our school district will supply the first pair. If you want to get grips anyways, you can find them at "Rockwall Sports" or online. Be sure you are getting men's high bar and/or men's ring grips if you choose to do this.

When / Where is the meet?
Meet dates, times, levels, etc... can be found on a link at the top of every page in the drop down menu. The link is labeled "Competition Schedule"

Can I get directions to the meet site?
Meet site addresses and directions can be found on a link at the top of every page in the drop down menu. The link is labeled "Directions"

What about food before the meet?
On the day before a middle school meet, everyone will need to bring $7.00. We will send in an order and have their food ready on the day of the meet. They will eat between the release of regular school time, and getting on the bus that picks them up from campus.

On the day of a high school meet, the guys will usually have time to go to subway and return.

    When is the meet over?
This depends on a few things (start time, size of the meet, number of judges, etc...). It's hard to predict, but our home meets start at 6:00 and should be done by 8:00. Sometimes they will be done before then, sometimes later.

Where do I pick up my son from after the meet?
All team members are required to ride the bus when the bus is provided. For all meets outside Rockwall ISD, the team will ride the bus to the meet site, and ride the same bus back to their School where they will then be picked up from their parents. For all meets within Rockwall ISD, the team will ride the bus to the meet site only, they will need a ride home from the meet site.

** Exception - all HIGH SCHOOL meets will always have a return bus regardless of where the meet is. This is because many of our high school athletes drive themselves home, and need a ride back to their car.

Does my son have to be there?
WMS ANSWER: 1st period - Yes; 2nd and 3rd period - Only if they are scheduled to compete. The only exception to this will be ineligible athletes: Ineligible athletes will not travel to the meets with the team.

RHS ANSWER: Yes, all eligible athletes on varsity are required to attend all meets, even if they are not scheduled to compete.

How do I wash the competition uniform?

    Exact wording from factory below:

    GK PLEASE READ

DO NOT use fabric softener, dryer sheets, dryer bars, or detergent with softener when washing this garment.

Using any type of softener will deteriorate fabrics and adhesives, may cause jewels to fall off, and may lessen the lifespan of your garment.

Pilling may occur on polytek and subfuse sublimated fabrics when it comes in contact with velcro and any other rough surfaces.  The black/bottom area of the garment tends to pill easier than other areas.  Unfortunately, this is an issue we cannot avoid due to the nature of the fabric.  Elite Sportswear will not be responsible for replacing or repairing your garment if pilling occurs.

Please follow the proper washing instructions located on the sewn-in interior tag.

    "IMPORTANT WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
