Rockwall ISD Students Excel at Texas Bicycle Racing’s State Championships

Two Rockwall ISD students recently competed at the annual State Championship road races held in Killeen, TX, sanctioned by USA Cycling and the Texas Bicycle Racing Association.  Brett Ross, a senior at RHHS, and Jack Makohon, a 7th grader at Cain MS, competed in both the category championships on Saturday and the age-based championships on Sunday.  These races were the final races of the 2018 road race season.

Brett Ross won the road race for 17-18 year-olds, making him the State Champion for the second year in a row. Jack Makohon placed 4th in the 13-14 year-old race.  In July, Jack competed in the USA Cycling Road Racing National Championships held in Maryland, where he placed 15th out of nearly 50 of the top 13-14 year-olds in the United States.

Both young men were thrilled to end the road race season on such high notes and will immediately begin training during the off-season for the 2019 season that will begin in February.
